BLIND GUARDIAN - "A Traveler's Guide To Space And Time": Para coleccionistas, completistas y amantes de BLIND GUARDIAN

Hablar del contenido musical de "A Traveler's Guide To Space And Time", no tendría mucho sentido. Estamos ante un compendio de todo lo editado por BLIND GUARDIAN a través de Virgin hasta 2004, basta darse un paseo por la lista de CD's para ver discos imprescindibles en la historia del Heavy Metal germano, continuadores y también coetáneos a HELLOWEEN y padres del Euro Power Metal, para bien y para mal de este género que tantos clones a piñón fijo ha dado, saturándose a sí mismo, como en otros estilos ocurrió en el pasado. Dejando a un lado el carisma mayor o menor de los componentes del grupo y en particular de su cantante Hansi Kürsch, muy dado al karaoke Metal en directo, lo cierto es que esta caja es un pedacito de historia.

Lo que importa en este tipo de ediciones es saber: qué aportan para fans, qué aportan para neófitos, qué aportan para coleccionistas y el acabado final del producto. Yendo por partes, lo que la caja aporta al apartado "fans", es más bien poco: la remasterización y remezcla de todos los discos (que se nota particularmente en los más antiguos y en los directos) y la inclusión en formato CD de "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass", hasta ahora sólo disponible visualmente, y una nueva edición de "Nightfall in Middle-Earth", sin cortes. El resto es lo que BLIND GUARDIAN ha hecho en sus 25 años de historia. Cada cual valorará si estas adiciones musicales merecen la pena el esfuerzo económico, o si lo hace el conjunto del producto. En el apartado neófitos, es donde esta caja puede triunfar: de un plumazo y a buen precio toda la discografía, mucho mejor que ir álbum por álbum, aunque se pierden "detalles" del artwork original (y se ganan otros puntos con los "extras") y todo a la vez puede resultar excesivo. Pero sin duda, es el apartado coleccionista el clave, uniendo su por qué al cuarto punto: el acabado final.

Para los que valoramos algo más que el contenido musical y consideramos que comprar música es obtener un elemento físico para su escucha, pero también un envoltorio nada desdeñable, esmerándonos en su cuidado y su conservación, esta caja es "casi" perfecta. Los 15 CD's se presentan en 13 "cardboards", de cartón grueso y cuidado, sin los típicos "fallos" de fábrica que otros dejan pasar (puntos de pegamento que se adhieren al CD, estrechas ranuras que arañan los compactos...). No son el "high level standing" de las ediciones japonesas, pues los CD's no tienen funda de papel adicional para una mayor protección, pero son mucho mejores que la mayoría de las colecciones de varios discos en caja que pululan por ahí. Pero la caja en sí es grandiosa: gruesa, protectora, muy bien terminada, con detalles como dejar uno de sus lados libre para que se pueda abrir y cerrar con facilidad... Y el conjunto se termina de redondear con un libro tamaño LP que recoge entrevistas que hablan de cada disco, una púa (la tontería de turno, pero bueno...) y un poster que certifica el número de edición limitada que tienes en tus manos.

Decir que este producto es puro fetichismo sería pecar de simplista, pero si unes el contenido al continente, obtienes un lanzamiento muy recomendable al precio inicial al que ahora está (casi 25 euros menos que en otras tiendas) y seguro que en el futuro, si no se agota la tirada, bajará. Lo dicho: un pedazo de historia y la mejor manera de tener prácticamente toda la discografía de un grupo clave. Déjate de megas y megas de música que nunca escucharás y date un buen regalo a la vista, el tacto y el oído.
